The two quarter grades will be averaged to derive your final grade.


 

Course Description:

Pre-requisite: Art I

Art II continues and expands upon the skills introduced in Art I.  The studio projects incorporate a wider variety of drawing and painting media and the student is introduced to three dimensional techniques.  During the second quarter students may create the script, sets and puppets and perform their original production.

 

Projects:  Assigned projects will require several classes to complete and will likely require substantial effort beyond class time.  Projects may include presentations and written reports as well as creative art work.

 

Portfolio:

You must keep all artwork and instructional materials, handouts, quizzes, articles etc. that I give you in an organized form.   You will be provided with a portfolio folder and shelf or drawer space.  I will ask to see select materials from time to time, and you must be able to provide them in good order.

Put your name and date on everything.

Your name, date and class period must be legibly written on all materials submitted for grading.  On two dimensional works this information must be provided in the front lower right hand corner.

 

Assessment:

Objective assessment may not be as straightforward on your creative work as it is in other courses.  You are encouraged to defend your work against any assessment I may give you that you believe is not in keeping with your grade expectation.  Exact criteria may vary from assignment to assignment, but the following will be applied to performance assignments:



A = exceeds the requirements and exhibits independent resourcefulness

B = accurately meets the requirements and exhibits some initiative

C = meets the minimum requirements

D = something is submitted, but it fails to meet the minimum requirements

F = failure to submit the assignment


 


Timeliness:

You will find that time outside of class will be needed to complete major projects.  Plan to work during your free periods, lunch, or after school.  All required assignments are to be completed prior to the beginning of the class at which they are due for full credit.  Otherwise, the maximum possible grade will be reduced by 5 points for each day it is late, but the lowest grade for adequately performed late work will be 50.

 

Work late due to excused absences must be presented at the beginning of the first class attended after such absence.

 

It is your responsibility to make up all work missed during any type of absence.  You should have ample notice of assignments due, and should work ahead if absences are foreseen, such as those due to sporting events.  If you are not certain of missed assignments call a classmate or me, or better yet, simply work as far ahead as comfortably possible.

 

Participation:

Your participation and behavior influence the overall effectiveness of the class for you and others.  The quarter starts with a participation grade of 100.  The participation grade is lowered by the respective points for inappropriate behavior such as the following:

Late for class – progressive –2 (first tardy), 4 (second) 6 (third) etc.

I strongly urge you to keep the School Motto, Mission, and Honor Code in mind at all times and to behave accordingly.  Although I hope for a relaxed, comfortable, fun yet stimulating and challenging classroom environment, I do not tolerate inappropriate or disruptive behavior.  I hope that students understand the general meaning of “inappropriate” and “disruptive” by now, and that my personal tolerance/intolerance zone for behaviors that may fall into these categories is clearly and consistently indicated if and when they arise.

 

Pledge:

Unless I otherwise indicate, all work is to be performed independently.  In other words, all work is “pledged”.  The pledge must be written in full on all quizzes and reports submitted for grading.  This is for purposes of tradition and reminder, as you are always on your honor and the pledge is thus redundant.

 

 

Reading assignments are homework and must be performed when assigned.

 

Work on your projects consistently.  Don’t hesitate to ask questions or relate concerns or problems relative to the course.  Do not hesitate to come to extra help or work in the studio outside of assigned class time.    Relax.  Have fun.  Do well.
